FROM THE DESK OF CHAIRMAN
The Indian Pharmaceutical industry is one of the largest in the world. It has got infinite future. At present, India is the largest provider of generic drugs globally. India holds an important position in the global pharmaceutical sector. This position has scaled a newer height in the wake of Covid 19 pandemic when India is called upon to supply hydroxychloroquine to Corona virus hit countries, including USA. This is a great moment for Indian pharmaceutical industry.
It has contributed immensely not just within Indian boundaries, but to the whole global healthcare outcome. A significant role will be played by this industry in the post Covid19 world. The world is going to witness larger investment in health care system and greater role for health care personnel including qualified and well trained Pharmaceutical people. Health care will assume priority in case of Defence too. It is a necessity and the need of the hour for the entire human race to fight against the invisible and deadly Corona virus instead of fighting against a Nation.
There is a shortage of Pharmaceutical colleges in the North East. In such a scenario, students from North East have to go to South India and other parts of India for Pharmaceutical course. In view of this demand and supply gap, the ERD Foundation Guwahati has established Allama T.R. College of Pharmacy at Sri Gouri, Badarpur. For this purpose necessary approval from Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi has been received for offering Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) and Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) courses from academic session 2020-2021. The Allama T.R College of Pharmacy is affiliated to Srimanta Sankardev University of Health Sciences, Guwahati, Assam. The college has been named after Allama Tayebur Rahman Barbhuiya of Hailakandi, an eminent Islamic scholar par excellence, a reformer, educationist and an ambassador of communal peace and harmony. He was held in high esteem by the people of North East India for his lifelong contribution towards social and educational development of the people in general and spiritual guidance in particular. It is a tribute to his memory and commitment to serve the people of the region.
The ERD Foundation which has the expertise of managing higher educational institutions including University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) and Regional Institute of Science and Technology is committed to impart quality education at Allama T R College of Pharmacy and produce employable graduates and diploma holders. Necessary infrastructures and quality teaching staff headed by the Principal Dr. Mohibul Hoque. The Allama T R College of Pharmacy is the 3rd Pharmaceutical institution in Barak Valley after the School of Medical & Paramedical Sciences of the Assam University & SMC, Silchar. It is also the first self financed Pharmacy College in the entire Valley. Certainly, this new Pharmacy College will partially provide a fillip in the Pharmaceutical education of the whole North East India.
As in other ERDF institutions, Allama T.R College of Pharmacy will offer freeship and other financial support to meritorious students of families below poverty line.
I hope, with the support of students, guardians and well wishers, Allama T.R College of Pharmacy will be a centre of excellence in the coming days. I assure that the college will be fulfilling the expectations of the students and guardians.
